John R "Dick" Adams is an accomplished Vermont carver, living in the Lake Champlain Islands. Dick was interested in wood working and carving at an early age. One of his first Boy Scout merit badges was a project in wood carving.

Between that carving and the mid sixtys he did many small carvings both in relief and in the round. This includes relief carvings on gun stocks and working decoys.

By 1970 he became more serious about carving and decided to do waterfowl and birds, including birds of prey.

Although waterfowl and birds of all kinds are his favorite subjects he sometimes has a side project going of a statue or replica of antique carvings.

Many of his carvings have been donated to schools and Ducks Unlimited for fund raising.

In the past his carvings have won many ribbons on the East and West coast, in Canada and at fairs in the area .

Dick and his work can be found in:

Wildfowl Carvings & Collecting ( the Summer 1986 Volume II, Number 2)
Titled "Creative Carvers of Vermont" on Page 60 (Dick Adams is on Page 66)
